Lecturer to bring global spirituality to university

SALT LAKE CITY — Medical Mission Sister Miriam Therese Winter will present this year’s annual Aquinas lectures at St. Catherine of Siena Newman Center, 170 S. University Street, Salt Lake City, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m. A professor of liturgy, worship, and spirituality, she is also director of the Women’s Leadership Institute at the interdenominational Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Conn.

Unique groundbreaking at old Bryner Clinic marks a new beginning for CCS

SALT LAKE CITY — The old Bryner Clinic on 300 South in Salt Lake City is getting a new look and a new mission. Thanks to a generous gift from Intermountain Health Care (IHC), the clinic building will become the new home of Catholic Community Services. In addition, IHC is contributing $450,000 in funds to be matched by the Diocese of Salt Lake City and other donors. Those funds will be used to pay for extensive renovation.

Lourdes reading program prepares students for success

SALT LAKE CITY — Our Lady of Lourdes School created the innovative Learn for Success reading intervention program six years ago. At that time, intervention designed specifically for children with reading difficulties was in its experimental phase. Through the past six years, the program has expanded so that over 50 struggling readers each year are now given the help they need with explicit reading instruction. The program has shown significant results in identifying and working with children at-risk for reading failure.

Students discover the joys of Gilbert and Sullivan

SALT LAKE CITY — Sixty students at Kearns-St. Ann School in Salt Lake City are learning the arts and the joys of a Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta. They will present a children’s version of "The Pirates of Penzance to parents and the public Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and judging by the rehearsals, the whole project has been nothing but fun.
