Madeleine Choir student is surprised with award

SALT LAKE CITY — Claire Adler, a third grade student at the Madeleine Choir School, walked with her class into the chapel early May 20, as usual to attend Laudes. However, after praying she received the surprise of her life. She was an unsuspecting contest winner and was awarded a prize.

WEST JORDAN — A male juvenile, 17, was arrested by the West Jordan Police at 11:30 a.m. June 5, after being interviewed by West Jordan Fire Investigators following an attempt to set fire to Saint Joseph the Worker Church earlier that morning at 4 a.m. He was booked into a juvenile detention center and charged with three first-degree felony counts of aggravated arson, according to West Jordan Fire Department Assistant Chief Marc McElreath.

SANDY — Megan Hansen is a 2008 graduate of Brighton High School. She is a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and has been in the Blessed Sacrament youth group since she was in the seventh grade. Shelley Valdez, Blessed Sacrament youth minister is sad to see her graduate and leave this year because her leadership skills are outstanding, her ideas are excellent, she is a good organizer, and she is a friend to everyone. When she first became involved in the youth group she was shy, but she has blossomed into a public speaker and a person with a dynamic personality.

At the 2008 Multi-Ethnic Senior Summit held in Ogden May 22, officials of the Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs and Utah’s Department of Human Services (DHS) spoke of services being provided by people who look like those being served and speaking their languages.
