SALT LAKE CITY — Judge Memorial Catholic High School and Juan Diego Catholic High School met for their third traditional St. Patrick’s Day lacrosse game March 17. But first Father Patrick Carley, a priest from Ireland and member of the Hibernian Society, celebrated Mass for them in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Fr. Carley is pastor of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish in West Jordan.

He‘s universally known as Father Mike, although he is in fact a lecturer on the Carmelite mystics and has been named Chaplain to His Holiness because of his service to the Church.

Guest Worker Permit law leaves immigrants vulnerable

In an attempt to provide alternatives for undocumented immigrants to achieve legal status, the Utah Legislature passed and Governor Gary Herbert signed into law H.B. 116 Utah Immigration Accountability and Enforcement Amendments. While the intent of the Legislature may be commendable, the law itself is heavily flawed and its effects may be devastating to the already vulnerable population of undocumented immigrants residing in Utah.
