Funeral pre-planning eases loved ones' stress

SALT LAKE CITY — Families may often, understandably, feel alone or an unquantifiable hollowness in circumstances surrounding the loss of a family member. This might especially be true in the case of an unforeseen, perhaps violent death of a young person versus an aged person with Ahlzeimer’s disease or the anticipated death of an older family member, which frequently allows for a certain psychological adjustment to the inevitable.

Bulldogs hoopsters go undefeated in region play

SALT LAKE CITY — The Judge Memorial Catholic High School boys’ basketball team finished the 2011-2012 regular season the holders of a 15-6 overall record, including a 10-0 run in region play and earned the Region 10 championship. This marks the 17th region championship for the Bulldogs, who were defeated in the first round of the 3A state playoffs on Feb. 18.

RIVERTON — Saint Andrew School's fifth grade was honored by the mayor of Riverton City, Bill Applegarth, at their D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony. Officer Lopez, the school's D.A.R.E. officer, presented the graduates to the mayor, acknowledging their commitment to stay drug and violence free. Throughout their year in the D.A.R.E. program, the students have learned to identify consequences and risks associated with drugs and alcohol use. They were also taught and used role-play to model the decision-making process, and ways to say no in spite of peer pressure and cultural and media influence.

SALT LAKE CITY — Fall was a busy season at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. We started off by hosting our annual Veterans’ Day Celebration. Students were asked to bring a veteran to school so that he/she could talk about their service to our country. Classes made cards for the veterans and enjoyed hearing about their experiences. The day was made extra-special by a presentation on Navajo culture. Two performers danced, talked about their culture, and had some fascinating things to say about the acclaimed Navajo Code Talkers.
