Members of the community gathered at the intersection of 10600 South and State Street in Sandy for an hour of prayer on Sept. 26 as part of Life Chain. The annual national event, which is described as a “peaceful, prayerful, public witness of pro-life,” began in 1987 and now is held in more than 2,000 cities across the United States. Most of the events are scheduled for October, which the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated as Respect Life Month, but the one in Utah was held Sept. 26 because many of the participants are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their General Conference is the first weekend of October, said Tina Pisenti, Respect Life director at St. John the Baptist Parish. The Life Chain was hosted by Knights of Columbus Council #12181 at St. John the Baptist Parish in Draper.
